Hydraulic Cylinder
Toolkit
Every hydraulic cylinder calculation you repeat — force and bore, bolts, ports, buckling, cycle time, wall thickness — plus the engineering reference tables behind them, in one app. Each result is shown with the method behind it and the nearest standard size, as a starting point for your own design check.
Who it's for
The calculations a cylinder engineer repeats every week — without the spreadsheet
Hydraulic Cylinder Toolkit is built for designers, cylinder manufacturers and field technicians. Enter the duty you already have on the order sheet and see the dimension, the safety factor and the nearest standard size in a few taps — on the shop floor or at the customer's machine, then check it the way you normally would.
Design side
Size a cylinder from the duty
Required bore from force and working pressure, minimum wall thickness for the tube, bolt count for the head connection, port size for the flow — with the safety factor you set as your default.
Verification side
Check a cylinder you already have
Actual push and pull force for an existing bore and rod, critical buckling load for the rod as mounted, real cycle times at the pump flow you measured. The reverse direction of every calculation is there too.
Calculation tools
1 / Force & Diameter
Calculate the required piston/rod diameter based on working
pressure, or determine the actual pushing and pulling force from a selected diameter. Automatic rounding to standard series diameters is supported.
2 / Bolt Calculation
Determine the required number of bolts for the cover connection, the
force per bolt, the actual safety factor, and the recommended tightening torque. DIN standards and bolt grades are supported.
3 / Port Calculation
Determine the minimum required port inner diameter based on flow
rate and identify the appropriate standard port size. View ideal and acceptable flow velocity results.
4 / Buckling
Calculate the critical buckling load and actual safety factor using the Euler and Tetmajer methods. Different mounting (support) types and materials are supported.
5 / Cycle Time
Calculate extension and retraction stroke times, piston speed, and volume based on piston/rod diameter, stroke length, and flow rate.
6 / Wall Thickness
Determine the recommended minimum wall thickness and outer
diameter for the cylinder tube using the Barlow and Lamé formulas.
