Hydraulic Cylinder Seals: The Keystones of Powerful and Reliable Hydraulic Cylinders

Hydraulic cylinders are essential machine components widely used for power transmission and control in industrial applications.

Hydraulic sealing elements are of great importance for hydraulic cylinders. Hydraulic seal elements prevent fluid leakage, ensuring the reliable, effective, and efficient operation of hydraulic systems. In this blog post, we will explore what hydraulic seal elements are, how they work, and their importance in hydraulic cylinders.

What are Hydraulic Sealing Elements?

Hydraulic seal elements are specifically designed components used in hydraulic cylinders to control the flow of pressurized fluid and prevent leakage. These elements are available in various types according to different hydraulic applications and needs.

Commonly used hydraulic seals are:

Hydraulic Rod Seals: These elements prevent the hydraulic fluid from leaking out of the system while the hydraulic cylinder is operating and the elements such as dust and dirt from the outside entering the cylinder body.

Hydraulic Scrapers/Wipers: These elements are used to prevent the elements such as dust and dirt coming from the external environment to the hydraulic cylinder from damaging the internal mechanisms. At the same time, Scrapers/Wipers prevent oil and other fluids from leaking out.

Hydraulic Wear Rings: These elements enable surfaces moving axially or radially to operate without contacting each other, with minimum friction and maximum load-carrying capacity. They exist in both metallic and non-metallic varieties. Non-metallic bearing elements are more commonly preferred in modern times.

Hydraulic Piston Seals: : These elements are used in hydraulic cylinders to provide sealing between the piston and the cylinder body, and by keeping the pressurized fluid on one side of the piston, it creates the necessary force to move the piston back and forth.

O-Rings: These elements provide the seal between the two parts. It is the most preferred sealing element due to its low cost and ease of use.

Static Seals: These elements are used to seal between parts in joints that move very little or not at all.

Hydraulic seals are the Keystones of hydraulic cylinders. Thanks to hydraulic seal elements, hydraulic cylinders operate reliably, efficiently, and effectively. The point to be considered is the correct selection of these sealing elements. Properly chosen hydraulic seal elements increase the performance of hydraulic cylinders, reduce losses, and decrease maintenance costs.
